GETTING STARTED

IMPORTING YOUR IMAGES
Mac HD
Once you have chosen the product you wish to create, you will need to add pictures to your album. Click on the + Icon in the top left of the designer and choose to either add a folder of images or alternatively select images individually. Once the images have been added, you can simply left click and hold down on one of the thumbnails and drag it into the design area, this will also add a red star to the thumbnail of you image to indicate that you have used that image in your album.

LAYOUTS AND DESIGN

SIMPLE LAYOUTS

Dragging your image around the design area will display the green snap grid guide to help you quickly and easily align your images. You can also add Rulers to your design area by navigating to View>Show Rulers. Once the rulers are visible you can left-click and hold on the ruler and drag in to the design area to create guides.

ADDING SHAPES

You can add solid shapes to your design if required by navigating to Insert>Shape. Shapes are especially useful if you require a solid colour background rather than the default white. Once you have inserted your shape you can fit it to the spread or page you require. See the 'Fit Tools' section below for more information.

ALIGN TOOLS

There are many composition options available. If you right click on your image you will see a list of options such as Align, Arrange and Fit. Holding down the shift key on your keyboard will allow you to select more than one image and align 2 or more picture boxes to each other. You can also right click and group selected boxes to move them around easier.

Arrange tool is used simply for layering image and selecting which image is to be displayed in front or behind. See Example.

FIT TOOLS

Fit is used when you want to make your image fit the whole page or spread. This is ideal if you would like that image to cover the entire page and ensure you will have no white area or border on your final album. Once you have achieved this it is likely that your image will be of a different ratio to the spread or page. Double clicking on your image will bring up the cropping guide where you can decide what part of the image you would like to be displayed. Remember to keep any important parts of the image within the red crop line to guarantee it will not be trimmed off during production of your album.

PAGE STYLES
Mac HD
In addition to aligning your own images we also have a selection of pre-made page styles, which you can drag and drop into your design area and then drop you images into the page styles. Remember to double click your image and check the cropping.

By clicking the ‘Add Picture Box’ option on the top left, you can also create and save your own templates. Add multiple picture boxes and use the alignment tools to change the distance between the boxes and align them accurately.

To save a Page Style, click on the small cog in the bottom right of the designer and choose which page you would like to save the page style for, It will then be added to the existing list of page styles and remain there for easy use in future.

MASKS

In the first tab you can add a border to your image boxes and define the thickness, colour and transparency as well as drop shadows and even options to curve the edges of you image box.

IMAGE EDITING

Often when designing a book you can’t fully appreciate how you images will work together until they are placed into the designer. This editing section of the designer allows you make quick changes to you images without having to leave the software. Change you image to sepia or black and white, flip and rotate you images, change the transparency and add inner shadows / vignette.

IMAGE RESIZING

If you want to be more accurate with you image sizes and position of your images, you can use the ruler tab to input your dimensions. You can also choose to constrain the proportions of your image if required. By default the unit of measurement is in millimetres, but this can also be changed in the Preference Pane.
