Film Identification Guide

Not sure which film you have?

Film formats can be confusing. These quick pointers should help you find the right processing service.

01

Colour Negative

C41 Film

Developed colour negative film normally has an orange or brown base with the colours reversed.

02

Monochrome Negative

Black & White

Traditional black & white negative film produces monochrome negatives rather than the orange-brown colour negative base.

03

Transparency / Slide

E6 Film

With transparency film, the developed image appears as a positive image rather than a colour negative.

04

Older Formats

APS, 110 & 126

Found an unfamiliar cartridge or an old camera? We still process several discontinued and specialist film formats.

Still not sure?

We can help identify your film.

Send our Didsbury lab a photograph of your film or cartridge and our team can help point you towards the correct processing service.

Since 1954 Photographic lab experience

Our Photographic Heritage

Film has always been part of what we do.

DS Colour Labs has been part of photography since 1954. Long before digital photography became the norm, film processing and traditional photographic printing were at the heart of the lab.

Today, that experience sits alongside professional Fuji and Noritsu technology, allowing us to process everything from freshly shot 35mm and medium format film to specialist formats that haven't been manufactured for years.
